wow! can you believe it we are in the last month of school! So here is the schedule of all the events that will be happening in class. You have no excuses for not having things on time. workbooks: start brining them on April 28th, you will need chapters 4A AND 4B of sections 1 and 2 if you decide to tear out the pages. April 29-30 will be Chapter 4A vocabulary quiz . May 6th progress reports May 7th world language party 7-11 pm $25.00 if want to attend see Ms Almora. May 10-11 practice final exam, this will be the closest thing to a study guide you will receive. Be here on those days or make up the test the following Monday during morning tutoring. Yes, the practice final will be for a grade. THere will be mini quizzes throughout the remainder of the year, some will be unannounced so be prepared for por quizzes beginning next week. :)may 12th those of you that are invited is the World Language Honor Society at 7 pm ceremony. rough draft 4A May 17 due. Welcome back from Spring Break!! So this week we are working on the new chapter 3B. Today in class you did the videohistoria portion. Please remeber to bring your workbooks to class. If you misplaced it get the copies done for the chapter before coming to class, come prepared. If I have to give you an alternate assignment because you were not prepared for class then expect to be docked a letter grade for the alternate work you have to do and another consequence is falling behind on the work. Enjoy the Fair, those of you going on the 8th. I will be at a workshop for the next few days I will see you Monday 12 April. I should not be missing after this. Work due on Monday 12/13 April (this is all the worksheets I assigned today and yesterday) 3B-A 3B-B 3B-1 3B-2 (on the day I see you). The fashion show was a success in those periods that did it. Great job!!!! I will be assessing the speakers and those that did not speak during the fashion show will have an opportunity before MYP progress reports in May. I will start hand picking a few of you every chapter to participate in interviews or conversations to recieve your grades. Rough drafts 2B due no later than 12 March at 3:30 pm. Remember that after that it will be considered LATE! And I am not accepting any late work that is more than 48 hours passed due. preterito quiz The past tense quiz is this week! Here is the project in case you did not have time to write it down. Clothing Store Group Project # Members in group 3-4 Description of Project: We are opening a new mall and to attract the community to come the owners have decided to start placing ads in the newspaper from the specialty/ novelty stores located in the new mall. Your store has also created a catalog/ flyers for customers with the prices of your sale items. The owners have also advertised a fashion show for the weekend before the grand opening of the mall to give the potential customer a preview of what they will see in the stores. The project will have 3 parts: 10/11 Feb 05 1. The specialty store, come up with a name in your group. You will create an ad to put in the newspaper. This will be an in class assignment. The ads will be bilingual ads so the information will need to be in Spanish and in English. You may have to separate ads or put the information all on one ad. Example: botas especial por $49.99 (Boots special) genuine leather All colors Selected styles 2. Catalog: 18/19 Feb 05 - will consist of a. drawings of outfits b. cut outs of magazines or c. of the internet (must sight where got it on a separate paper) - should be specific: only containing the type of clothing from your specialty store - will also need accessories for your specialty store (example: shoe store, purses, stockings, etc) - will need to include prices and label the items in Spanish, and what colors you offer them in 3. Fashion show: 02/03 March - create 3 outfits from scratch or from what you already have at home. - Each member will be responsible for bringing one of the items of clothing you will need for the outfits you are creating (example: helmets, skateboard, etc) - All props and clothing must be in the classroom the day prior to the show in a bag and labeled. - You will need 1 or 2 members of the group to be the models - You will need an announcer to describe the clothing the model is wearing (in Spanish)

This is a very short week! I will be posting grades for midterms and the essays on the 18th or before, no earlier than Sunday. This week we will continue to do the reading comprehension for those classes that have not done so already. This is part of the IB progress report grade. It will be a grade for 3rd nine weeks. Remember that Tuesday and Wednesday (19/20 jan) your daily routine projects are due. You will be presenting them in class. For those of you who opted not to do the presentation on the painter or were absent you will have to speak longer in order to receive your IB speaking grade. Be prepared to answer questions in Spanish. The daily routine project will be worth 2 grades (equal to a test grade). You will also be having a chapter test the week of the 25th of January be ready. Since we are finishing the chapter you can start working on the rough drafts for chapter 2A, they will be due on the end of the week of Feb. 1st. Plan ahead. We will also be choosing our groups for the magazine project that will be due towards the end of Feb. remember that it can be a group or an individual project it is up to you. Come to class prepared with your workbooks you will be needing them! Have a great few days off. All grades and late work has been inputted as of this morning (17 Jan 10). OK all it is midterms week!!! Hope you all studied. This week if you are not taking your midterm objective you will be working on your daily routine mini project. This mini project will consist of your routine to get ready for school and then your routine once you get home from school. You will have to put times and yes all verbs need to be conjugated. I will give you more information in class and the rest of the requirements. For those that are absent I will place it here later this week. The finished product will be turned in between the 19th and 20th of january. No school monday the 18th. There will be no excuses for lateness since we will be doing most of it in class. This will be part of your 3rd nine weeks grade. Also remember that this week you can redeeming your pesos. As of 08 January I am not accepting any late work! I have given all of you a progress report before the break to get signed and to turn in with any make up work by the 8th. If you did not take advantage of this opportunity this week and next will be to late since I need to grade exams. If you were absent on 08 January or 11 January and missed you short answer and essay part of the midterm you will be able to do it after you finish your objective part. Please remember to bring a pencil to class for your exams. Also bring your note card (cheat sheet) if you decided to make one on the day of the essay and the day of the objective. We will continue working on reflexives this week and be finishing the chapter on the week of the 19th, be ready. I will be assigning the unit project the week of the 25th of january. Make sure you have decided who will be in your group or if you will work alone. Week of 18 January: You will be taking a reflexive quiz or 2 this week. Study!!!! Week of 25 January We will be taking the chapter 2A test. Hope you all had a wonderful vacation and enjoyed yourselves. Rest plenty this week since next week are midterms. Midterms study session this Tuesday afterschool and mornings of Monday, Thursday only! I will be staying afterschool on Tuesdays for tutoring until end of April, so make the necessary arrangements if you know you need help! This week: We will be working on the reflexive verb, it is one of the only things left for this chapter (2A). We will be reviewing the vocabulary as well to refresh you before the midterm. DUE THIS MONDAY and TUESDAY your study guides are due on the day of your return. I will be giving them back to you at the end of class if I can or I will give it to you the following class. Let's play it by ear. It should be ALL done for you to recieve the appropriate grade. Remember incomplete work is as if you did not do it at all. Laziness does not deserve a grade. MAKE UP WORK: OK kiddos I gave you all a grade report sheet for those that wanted to make up any missing assignments. So if you are planning on turning in late work remember you need a parent signature on the report and the makeup work has to be attached to the report. Ok last week before break!!!! This week we will continue to work on our new chapter 2A. We will do a quick review of ser/estar and begin the new concept of reflexive verbs before we leave for vacation. You will be having a mini quiz on the palabras del dia, the ones for this 9 weeks so far, most of the words with c and ch. You will also be receiving a study guide to take home and work on during break. YOu will be receiving a grade for it so make sure you do the study guide all parts. Remember that if it is incomplete it is like you did not do it. It will be due the day you return. Upon your return we will be doing the essay the week before the objective part. We will discuss this and continue our work. Be ready to continue working till the last day so be prepared to work and bring all your material to class everyday.

Hola clase, This Monday and Tuesday is your quiz on comparatives and saber/conocer. After the quiz we will be covering the last new material for the chapter. We will have the chapter test Monday/Tuesday of next week so start studying. Rough draft for end of the year project: Now that we have covered chapters 1A and 1B we are ready to start the rough draft of the book for the end of the year. You will have to create a grammar worksheet for a concept in each chapter, for example for chapter 1B saber/conocer. You will give an explanation of that concept (I suggest you choose one that gave you a hard time) and then give 3 examples of how to use the grammar and finally you will come up with 5 questions (a mini quiz) where someone else will have to answer the questions you have created. Remember to give instructions on what the person has to do. Also remember you will do this for EACH chapter (1A and 1B). Then you will choose 10 or more vocabulary words that you had trouble with for EACH chapter. You will create definitions for these words (translations are fine). These are words you had a hard time with or you can use all the words from each chapter. Afterwards you will create a worksheet (like a workbook page). To make this you can make a crossword puzzle or a matching activity or a fill in the blank, match the picture with the word, a word search, etc. It is up to you how you want to present the vocabulary worksheet. In the past some students have combined the words from both chapters to create one worksheet. I will provide you with examples in class. These are just the rough drafts for these chapters. They will be worth a grade per chapter and per activity, for a total of 4 grades! We will be doing this for each chapter. Since these are your rough drafts after grading them I will keep them in your folders and give them back before spring break so you can work on the final project that will be due in early May. Try to have your rough drafts be typed or using puzzle maker (the link is here on the blog) so you do not have to redo the whole thing in the end. Save as you go to a memory stick or your home computer, or create a folder in your student portal so you can always have access to it from ANY computer. Due date for chapters 1A and 1B: 10/11 December 2009 This week we will begin chapter 2A and a mini project will be assigned. A big project for chapters 2A/2B will be given shortly, start thinking of who you want to work with to create a mini fashion magazine. Fashion mag will be due after Winter Break and midterm exams, we still have a while but start thinking. there will be no more than 3 people per group so choose wisely and of course you can always work on your own. This week we will also pick our groups for mercado, everyone must have a group 3-4 per group and a brochure will need to be made advertising the wonders of the chosen country. Details will be given next class after the quiz and after the last chapter concept. We have a lot to do the next few weeks so no slacking off we are not on vacation yet! We will also be doing some reading comprehension and listening comprehension this week so be ready to listen, write and read! Please make sure to give me your initials and your period so I know who you are. This assignment is due by midnight Friday, 13 November 2009. So basically you have until Thursday night to get a post. ASSIGNMENT: You have watched the movie on Goya, now find a painting we saw in class or another of goya's paintings from his early works, disparates, caprichos, court painter period, or his black paintings. Give the name of the painting you have chosen, tell from which of his periods it belongs to, explain briefly why you chose this painting and why you think he painted it (one sentence for each of these requiremetns should be enough. Remember to use the spanish vocabulary for art that you have. Your answer must be in SPANISH!

It will not be accepted next week at all, not even with a parent note since I need time to correct and input grades. The last grades for this 9 weeks will be your final drafts and that is 2 grades, one for grammar and one for communication/understandability of the material. We are at the end of Hispanic Heritage Month. We will be doing our art presentations this week. Be prepared to present when you are called upon. When you are not presenting you will be taking notes on the presentations of your classmates. You will have a test at the end of the week or beginning of the next, depending on when we finish the presentations. For the test and your notes you will need to know the artist and the work of art presented as well as the country the artisit is from. This presentation is your first MYP assessment. Rough drafts will be returned this week after Wednesday. The final draft with the cover page will be turned in between Friday 23 October and Monday 26 october by 3:40 p.m. or else it would not be accepted. Remember you can always email it as an attachment, but make sure you try it before the due date to be on the safe side because if it is not in my mailbox before then I will not accept it. How to get them… Homework passes given for A or highest grade on quizzes and tests. Choose your activity day= whole class must win competitions Other incentives through out the course BEHAVIOR: There will be no tolerance for behavior that is distracting, disrespectful, insulting, or harmful to others. This also includes throwing things such as paper in class and vulgar language. Detention will be issued immediately. Consider this your warning. Responsibilities: Be respectful. This includes keeping personal space and not touching others or demeaning anyone in class. Be prepared. This includes bringing paper, writing utensils AND workbook to class each day and ready to work upon arrival. Be responsible. In order to turn in any late work, a note from a parent/guardian must be attached as well as contact information for the parent (email preferred). In the note an explanation must be given to why assignment could not be turned in on time. Late work will only receive 70 % maximum grade if turned in within 48 hours, afterwards 60% will be awarded for COMPLETED work.
